Recycling is about more than putting materials in your cart. Certain products, if placed in the recycling carts, are dangerous to recycling workers and contaminate the recycling process because they are not marketable commodities. Contaminated recycling costs the City time and money and can sometimes make an entire load of recyclable materials trash.
Please help us keep our recycling clean and safe by NOT placing any of the below items in your recycling cart:
- Aerosol cans with chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
- Electronics
- Batteries
- Propane tanks or oxygen tanks
- Aluminum foil or disposable aluminum plates or pie tins
- Food, liquids, or these items remaining in an otherwise recyclable container
- Automotive product containers
- Clothing, textiles or shoes
- Ceramics, ovenware, glass that is not a container
- Light bulbs and string of lights (incandescent, fluorescent or CFC)
- Mirrors or leaded glass
- Toys or hardcover books
- Paint Cans
- Chains, wires, ropes or cords
- Paper towels, napkins, or Kleenex
- Pizza boxes coated with cheese and grease (okay to tear off lid if no food or grease spots).
- Plastic containers that contained hazardous material (such as bleach, motor oil, or antifreeze)
- Plastic grocery bags, plastic wrap, candy and chip wrappers, and food wrapping
- Plate glass, auto glass, tempered glass
- Wood, grass clippings, leaves or brush
- Styrofoam cups, food clamshells, egg cartons, and meat trays labeled Number 6
